MGM Grand Detroit: Daily Poker Tournaments and More

MGM Grand Detroit features daily poker tournaments. The number and type of tournaments depend on the number of participants registered. Typically, mid-week games are less popular than evening and weekend tournaments.

Entrance Requirements

To sign up for a tournament, players must register with the poker room manager at the Grand Detroit. Registration is on the same day as the tournament, during the specified registration period. Registration usually commences at 9 a.m.

All contestants are required to have an M Life Player's Club card to be allowed to sign up for the tournament. Players may be required to show identification.

Details and Buy-In

The MGM Grand Detroit offers four daily games. The 1 p.m. game is the first of the day and has a buy-in fee of $55. The 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. tournament both charge buy-ins of $110, and the 9 p.m. tournament (the last of the night) costs $215.

Each participant in each tournament (regardless of buy-in) gets $1,500 in starting chips. An additional $5 "optional dealer appreciation" is available at registration and entitles the player to $500 additional chips.

Tournaments are played at tables 3, 4 and 5 in the main poker room. Each tournament will begin once 10 players are registered, and cannot be delayed. A player cannot play more than one spot at once. Each level is 15 minutes.

Prizes for MGM Grand Detroit poker tournaments are not guaranteed. Instead, the winner receives 70 percent of the prize pool, and the second place participant receives 30 percent of the pool, excluding any administrative and dealer fees.
